Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
Academies are really expensive to run so I doubt there is much profit unless you are doing what Chelsea and Man City have done and hoover up talent early to loan and sell all over Europe for big fees. Let's face it a lot of our youngsters leave on frees or nominal fees, even the better ones.
I get that not many will actually make it to the top level but who knows maybe Rice wouldnt have if he wasnt given that opportunity. At least let's see whether an attribute they have fits what we need, even if it's just raw energy and passion.

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
Allardyce joined WHU twelve years ago. How many young players of ours since then until now, and under four different managers have we subsequently realised we should have kept hold of?

How many would have thrived if given experience and blooded properly at a pivotal point in their career?

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
We got Paul Allen and Alan Dickens out of one FA Youth Cup win and Carrick & Cole out of another…what should be the gripe is that from youth to senior level they all played in the same style so the adjustment was about handling the speed and physicality of the senior game…now it’s a further adjustment due to the cunt Moyes and forwards have even more of a struggle feeding off scraps as our current converted striker put it….

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
That's what makes it even more stupid we don't bring the kids through. Especially a promising striker when strikers cost the most money to buy

Its part of being successful financially is bringing through youngsters who cost the club fuck all. Allows us more money to spend on acquisitions

Its a massive missed oppourtunity to not nuture this amazing group we've had fall in our lap

the U21's beat league two Newport County away last night without Mubamba or Marshall

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
Maybe the board are happy with the returns they get from training kids up to sub-Premier League level every year and simply selling them on (at a profit).

The one that steps up to the line and into the first team for the club is the once-in-every-10-years exception.

Rice has simply covered out the last 10 years.

I don't like this, becoming too frequent.
Difficult not to blame Moyes.

Good luck to him…

Must be better than Ings…

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
There are seven minutes left on the clock. Antonio is knackered. Who do you bring on?
Danny “hair transplant” Ings. A player who has not scored in the Premier League since February. Just how bad can Mibama be?
The young lad must feel very frustrated.

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
unrealistic terms = wanting 1 minute of Premier League experience

He's 19, got a European medal around his next, a FA Youth Cup medal around his next, he's our current Young Hammer of the year.

He's been treated appallingly so far this season.

Could be his agents see him as the next greatest thing and are asking for unrealistic terms

I'm sure you are right, especially as he will be playing tonight... I think he might have been otherwise.

I'll go out on a limb here, and say Marshall won't even be part of the match squad on Wednesday, ludo21.

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
Obviously we want to keep Mubama but Callum Marshall seems to be regarded by many as a better prospect... I haven't seen enough of either to form an opinion.

Will be interesting to see who plays for the U21 in the EFL Trophy at Newport tonight as arguably these games give the U21s their most competitive outings but presumably anyone playing won't be involved on Thursday.

Will be interesting to see if Moyes considers the League Cup too much of a distraction and fields a weakened team.

Interesting that both Moyes and Mubama will be leaving at the end of the season.

I find it odd you're comparing those players we've released previously to the much more successful, better ones we currently have.

Re: Mubama turns down contract extension?
Moyes’s handling of Mubama is absolutely criminal
If you’re going to give a youth team player a chance then striker is the least risky position to try out, goalkeeper and defender obviously being the most risky if they have a mare
What Moyes can’t see is that his two first choice strikers are currently playing Sunday league standard
Mubama could have the worst game of his life and he still wouldn’t be any worse
It’s literally a no loss situation
I can only assume Moyes won’t play him as if he did and he had a brilliant game and scored it would show how clueless Moyes has been to ignore him all season

Another factor Moyes doesn’t even consider is that over the years there’s been a few youngsters in the premier league that have been thrown into games due to selection issues and these youngsters weren’t highly rated but thrived under the pressure
I believe Rashford at Man Utd was low down their pecking order but due to others being out on loan and injuries he was given his chance and that didn’t work out too badly for him

Odd thing to assume.

Alwaysaniron 12:38 Tue Oct 31

You're probably not aware, but we've our U23's finished 2nd to City in the league not so long ago, and the season just gone we won the FA youth Cup.

It would be a travesty if none of these players make it at WHU because of the managers shitty treatment of the youths.
